Yes, I cook and clean, and do laundry as well.
On weekends, I wipe everywhere, sweep the floor, and refill the soap dispensers.
Cause if I don’t, who else is gonna do it? because it has to get done.
And every now and then, someone makes a comment like it’s a surprise.
“Man, you cook every night?”
“You do all the laundry too?”
Yeah. I do. Who else is gonna do it?
I live with my son.
I’m raising him.
And that means running the house, not just the errands.
This isn’t some “look at me being different” moment.
This is just life.
And life doesn’t care if you’re tired or if cleaning isn’t your thing.
So when something spills, I wipe it.
When the fridge is empty, I cook.
And when the hamper’s full, I do the laundry.
Not because I necessarily love chores, nor is it to impress anyone.
But I believe in showing up.
And sometimes I do wonder why it surprises people.
Like being a man automatically means I’m waiting for someone else to handle the “home stuff.”
However, I know being clean and capable is rare.
But to me, it’s basic.
It’s necessary.
It’s what being a present single parent looks like.
But still…when people say to me, “You do all that?”
I catch myself wondering…
Isn’t this my responsibility?
Isn’t this supposed to be normal?
Or have we just gotten so used to broken roles that being hands-on feels optional?
I don’t have the answers.
All I know is, this is my home.
And I’m gonna take care of it.
