Yes, I Go All Out for Birthdays—Why Wouldn’t I

Some moms bake cupcakes and call it a day.
Me? I rent out venues, order custom backdrops, and book the character appearances. plural.

I’ve heard it all.
“You do too much.”
“They won’t even remember it.”
“Isn’t that money better spent somewhere else?”

Maybe.
But I remember every detail. And so do they.

I remember the joy on my daughter’s face when she walked into a glow-in-the-dark spa party with personalized robes for her and all her friends.
I remember my son’s superhero party. How he jumped up and down when the real Spider-Man walked in (okay, not real, but close enough).
And I remember the feeling I had watching them be celebrated… not just with stuff, but with effort.

Because that’s what birthdays mean in my house. Effort. Intentionality. Celebration.
A reminder that your life matters and you are deeply, completely loved.

It’s more than balloons and party favors; it’s about creating core memories.

About showing them that they are worth planning for. Worth getting excited over.

I work hard to save and budget.

And when it’s time for their birthday, I go all in. Not to compete. Not to impress.

But because these moments don’t come back.

We rotate themes, start brainstorming months in advance, and yes—we get matching clothes.

We take photos, light candles, hug, dance to the loud music, and make memories that’ll live in our home and our hearts long after the cake is gone.

And if that makes me “extra,” then maybe extra is what they’ll grow up remembering.

They may not have had everything… but they had me, fully present.

And the real question isn’t why I go all out.
The question is—why wouldn’t I?
