The Parent Path

I Didn’t Know I Was Supposed to Pray About Everything

For the longest time, I didn’t know I was supposed to pray about everything.

I thought prayer was only for emergencies. For the times of illness, grief, or crisis when a miracle seemed the only hope. But life has taught me that prayer isn’t just for the big moments. It’s for everything.

Every step, decision, and ordinary day needs to be covered by prayer.

Why We Often Limit Prayer to Crisis Moments

It’s easy to think of prayer as a last resort. When things are falling apart or we feel overwhelmed, that’s when we turn to God. But what about the quiet seasons? The moments when everything seems fine?

I didn’t realize I needed to pray for my marriage when it was strong, or for my children before they could even speak. I didn’t know prayer could prepare me for conversations or guide my tone before I spoke.

The Consequences of Moving Without Prayer

I’ve learned firsthand what happens when I rely solely on my understanding and plan without inviting God’s guidance. Sometimes things don’t collapse completely; they just feel off.

Enough to cause confusion, exhaustion, and doubt about whether I’m truly aligned.

In marriage, I once waited for breakdowns to pray for unity instead of praying in the laughter.

For my children, I waited until they struggled to pray for their peace instead of covering their minds and spirits daily.

Recognizing the Importance of Praying Over the Everyday

Even now, I catch myself forgetting that the little things need prayer, too. The everyday tasks, parenting, loving, managing, pursuing peace, are not small. They all need God’s covering.

That’s why I pray over everything now: the meals I prepare, conversations I fear, decisions that seem simple, and days that feel heavy without reason. Because if it matters to me, it matters to God.

Walking With God Through Everything

True trust means not just running to God when things break down, but walking with Him through every part of life I want to build. Prayer is no longer just for emergencies; it’s for every single moment.

And knowing this? That’s grace.
